An aerial view of a bog in its natural state suddenly sinks into the unimaginable, then appears to evaporate into ghostly images of Sphagnum moss (a bog\u2019s keystone species) imprinted on 16mm film. Endless Thirst alludes to the bog\u2019s reliance on water for survival and humanity\u2019s unquenchable desire for resource and supply. Shot with a macro probe lens, the film offers a unique perspective \u201cclose to the ground\u201d and unprecedented details on plastic decay. The idea of the film came on our walks, in our neighbourhood on the rural Algarvian coast and in other sites of the world like eastern Europe where throwing trash into the nature is apparently a common concept. Umay is a marine scientist living in Istanbul. <\/p>\n<p>She, like no one else, knows the Sea of Marmara because, due to her profession, she has explored it to its very depths. However, mucilage has taken over the entire length of the Sea of Marmara. The Bosphorus lost its status as a trade route, fish species and fisheries disappeared, and the sea was abandoned to its fate. Wishing to continue her career in another country, Umay applies for immigration and, after a long wait, Interview Day arrives. Her works are inspired by the living and embodied in contemporary dance.
