He is a doctoral candidate in Communication Sciences - Contemporary Culture and New Technologies - at NOVA FCSH, where he investigates the relationship between textual practices, the digital medium, and cognitive processes. With a degree in Communication Sciences and a Master\u2019s in Journalism and Media Studies, she has spent the last decade communicating on environmental issues, politics and social justice. <\/p><p>Joana created and presented Ambientalista Imperfeita on Antena 3 and Verdes Anos on RTP3, radio and tv channels of the Portuguese Public Broadcaster. She finished her studies at KHM - Academy of Media Arts Cologne in 2020. \u201cSeagulls cut through the sky\u201d (2023) co-written and co-directed with Guillermo Garc\u00eda L\u00f3pez, premiered in Cannes at the Quinzaine des Cin\u00e9astes program \u201cDirectors Factory, North Portugal\u201d. She currently works across filmmaking and art direction, and is a member of the Portuguese Film Academy and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Born in V\u00e1rzea de Meruge, a rural village, she grew up in close contact with nature and the surrounding territory. <\/p><p>Throughout her journey, she has combined her interest in science with different experiences, having been a federated swimmer, participated in scientific competitions and engaged in volunteer work. In 2022, she won the 7th-grade EQUAmat (PMATe) competition as part of the National Network Science Competitions. At the 30th edition of CineEco, she was also part of the festival\u2019s promotional campaign, an experience that reinforced the importance she places on environmental awareness and the appreciation of nature through cinema. She is also a member of PENAS, an environmental education project for young people run by CERVAS (Centre for Ecology, Recovery and Monitoring of Wild Animals) in Gouveia. <\/p><p>She has been practising Shotokan karate for nine years and has recently taken up Jiu-Jitsu as well. He attended the first levels of education here, later entering the University of Porto where he graduated in Dentistry. <\/p><p>He returned to Seia forty-one years ago to practice as a dentist, together with his wife and colleague, and continues to do so to this day.<\/p><p>His interest in associativism stems from his university days, when he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Students' Association of the Escola Superior de Medicina Dent\u00e1ria. Later, he was a member of the governing bodies of the Professional Association of Dentists and, subsequently, of the Order of Dentists, in different positions and at different times, until 2020. <\/p><p>In Seia, he noticed the existence of several associations and institutions that shared common goals: to help create a more enlightened, empowered and inclusive society. From this journey in the area of \u200b\u200bassociativism came the connection with the Governing Bodies of some institutions and associations in the region. He is still a member of the governing bodies of some of them, most notably the Associa\u00e7\u00e3o de Benefic\u00eancia Social e Cultural de Tourais, the \u201cURZE: Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Florestal da Encosta da Serra da Estrela\u201d, and the Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Humanit\u00e1ria dos Bombeiros Volunt\u00e1rios de Seia.<br \/>  <\/p><p>He was a member of the Tourais Parish Assembly from 2002 to 2005.<br \/><\/p><p>He is a Municipal Councillor for Gender Equality.<br \/><\/p><p>He was honored for his professional activity by the Rotary Club of Seia in 2024 and awarded the \u201cMunicipal Bell of Merit and Dedication\u201d by the Municipality of Seia in 2025.<\/p><p>Reading and cinema are two of the hobbies he has enjoyed since his youth.
