ABOUT

Can movies change the world?

Cinema has influenced cultures, shaped lifestyles, proliferated habits and vices, overthrown dictatorships and since its invention has been a powerful vehicle for transmitting cultures and ways of life.

Yes, movies can change the world!

at Seia - Serra da Estrela.

Since 1995 it has never suspended or skipped a year, nor has it changed its origins. In a region with a rich natural heritage, with the most significant testimonies of glacial action in Portugal, a Nature Park, a Biogenetic Reserve, a Site of Community Interest and a Wetland of International Importance!

A POINT OF

ANNUAL MEETING

and many stories.

With tribal chiefs, Oscar nominees, researchers, activists, actors, producers, directors and so many other areas and professions; between evocations or tributes, international meetings, climatic disasters such as fires or global pandemics, the Festival was, is, and will always be a point of arrival and departure for many stories!

CineEco Spirit

We are the manifestation of the power of the mountain. The divine guardian of the natural balance that protects rivers, trees and animals. We are ancestral wisdom, unparalleled strength, universal knowledge. We are divine. We are man and animal. We are nature itself.

We are the voice of the mountain spirit.

CINEMA . MOUNTAIN . ENVIRONMENT

sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability.

Environmental and sustainable cinema is a tool for social and ecological change, promoting creativity and critical reflection for a more conscious and balanced future. In line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it has played an essential role in raising awareness and educating society about environmental challenges.

Seia reaffirms its commitment to access to drinking water and the sustainability of water resources, promoting water quality and the enhancement of riverside areas. This vision extends to the Festival, where the responsible use of water reflects the same environmental concern that guides local policies.

Seia has been reinforcing its commitment to waste recovery and the transition to a circular economy. This principle is also present at the Festival – promoting responsible practices, waste reduction and waste separation during the event.

Seia is committed to more sustainable mobility, investing in improving the road network and in accessible, environmentally-friendly public transport. This vision is also reflected in the Festival, which encourages more responsible (car sharing, use of the train, electric bicycles) and environmentally conscious forms of travel throughout the event.

Environmental awareness and education, nature tourism and the enhancement of heritage are central to Seia’s environmental policy. At the Festival, this vision takes shape, linking culture, science and nature conservation through activities consistent with this positioning and raising awareness among all partners.

Seia is investing in modernizing public lighting with LED technology, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. These measures will be implemented gradually throughout the municipality and municipal facilities, including those used during the Festival.

Seia values the second R of recycling – reuse – as an essential practice for reducing waste and extending the useful life of materials. This logic is also present at the Festival, with the recovery of structures, objects and decorations whenever possible and feasible.

Reducing the use of paper is an increasingly important goal for the Festival, with digital tools being the main focus. Even so, due to the nature of the event and its audience, the printing of some media, such as the catalog or posters for example, is maintained, as it is necessary to reconcile accessibility and sustainability.

Reducing waste production is a premise of the municipality’s actions. The Festival is no exception and this is also reflected in the choice of merchandising.
Whether in the type of materials used (natural or recycled materials) or in the quantity produced and offered.
