»» SUBMISSIONS FOR THE 32nd EDITION OF THE FESTIVAL ARE NOW OPEN. ««
The competitions and special screenings of CineEco – Serra da Estrela International Environmental Film Festival are open to fiction and documentary films, produced for cinema and/or television, national or foreign, and works of visual art that were started after January 1, 2025.
Before submitting your film, take note:
The official selection is communicated by email to the directors at the beginning of July and then published on the Festival’s website and other communication channels until July 20th.
Once the official selection has been announced, it is mandatory to send the requested materials (promotional kit for the film or others) and the respective copy formats by June 20th.
Failure to deliver the requested materials will result in the film being excluded from the official selection.
As this is a film festival dedicated to the environment, the works in the competition must directly or indirectly focus on environmental issues:
The competitions and special screenings are open to fiction, non-fiction, animation, documentary or experimental films, produced for cinema and/or television, national or foreign, and works of visual art provided they were completed in the year of the current edition.
The CineEco competitions are made up of 6 different categories:
Films that are not selected for the Official Selection may be considered for screening outside of the competition, as part of the Festival’s parallel programme.
The special exhibitions include visual works of art (digital, video or film, with an environmental theme) that will be part of the edition’s program. They may also be part of an exhibition at a location to be determined.
The Festival also tries to punctuate the week of the edition with other screenings of works that for some reason fit into the thematic line-up, which can be shown at the opening, in parallel sessions or at the closing.

Would you like to take part in CineEco and don’t know how?
Applying to volunteer at the Festival is one of the available options. Kindly dedicating some of your time to environmental cinema can be a rewarding and unique experience, as it offers the opportunity to gain close insight into the backstage of an international event and to engage with both the film industry and the environmental sector.
CineEco is an event held in a town in the interior of an asymmetrical country, promoted by a local authority that, together with its people, embraced the environmental issue long before it became fashionable, and which, uninterrupted by various challenges over the course of its 30 years, has remained true to its values and principles.
Since its inception, the Festival has gone beyond physical or cultural borders. Whether international during the week of the Festival, or in establishing partnerships with extensions of the festival across borders throughout the year.
Giving visibility to environmental issues through cinema is part of its mission and this allows the Festival, and those with whom it decides to collaborate, to have an impact on society at a cultural level and in terms of raising environmental awareness, using cinema as a vehicle for discussion and change.
It means being part of this global community and a cultural event that for 30 years has been thinking about, showing, debating and promoting the environmental issues brought to the festival by filmmakers and participants. It means reinforcing our collective commitment to environmental awareness, film culture and the promotion of sustainable values, actively contributing to this vital project where together we can make a difference.
