The CinEco extensions bring environmental cinema to different audiences and territories, promoting ecological awareness, inclusion and access to culture, affirming the Festival’s commitment to environmental education and social change.
In addition to its official program in Seia, CineEco continues throughout the year with its national and international extensions. These decentralized sessions take the best of environmental cinema to schools, associations, cultural centers and partner festivals, raising awareness of ecological issues among different audiences and territories.
The CineEco extensions affirm the commitment renewed annually between the festival and the entities that apply, reinforcing the festival’s role in environmental education, inclusion and democratizing access to culture, as an active agent of social and ecological change.

CineEco comes to the João da Silva Correia School Cluster! In a partnership between the National Cinema Plan, Eco-Schools and the Science in Action Club, we celebrate Earth Week, Sustainable Development and Citizenship. Be inspired and inspire your students to think, feel and act for the planet!
In 2026 it will hold 10 sessions with screenings of 20 films.
It has been a CineEco extension since 2022.
Results:
The celebration of Earth Week, in coordination with the Municipal Educational Project (20 to 25 April), took place at the João da Silva Correia School Cluster, with activities that extended until 7 May, implemented across 39 classes, from the 1st cycle to secondary education, with more than one film viewed in many of them. The National Cinema Plan, in partnership with Eco-Schools, the Science in Action Club and the School Library, renewed its commitment as an Official Extension of the 31st edition of the Serra da Estrela International Environmental Film Festival (CineEco2025). A challenge of environmental reflection in defence of the planet was set, through cinema. In a transdisciplinary symbiosis, promoting a holistic and collaborative vision within the classroom, students explored documentaries and short films from the festival, with post-viewing reflection, to celebrate World Earth Day 2026, whose theme was “Our Power, Our Planet”, with the aim of inspiring them to think, feel and act in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

O Município de Oliveira do Hospital promove há quase duas décadas a extensão do CineEco – Festival Internacional de Cinema Ambiental da Serra da Estrela – reconhecendo a sua importância enquanto único festival sobre a temática ambiental em Portugal, ao mesmo tempo que promove e divulga obras cinematográficas de uma importância ímpar e que de outra forma não chegariam até nós de uma forma tão simples. Por outro lado, no âmbito da Competição Panorama Regional, o reconhecimento de realizadores locais e a divulgação das suas obras tem, no seio da nossa extensão, uma importância especial, indo ao encontro de públicos de várias gerações, estando, por isso, a extensão de Oliveira do Hospital dividida em três secções – público sénior, infanto juvenil e geral.
Neste ano irá realizar a exibição de 16 filmes tendo como público alvo: público sénior, infanto juvenil e público em geral.

Extensão Aderno is dedicated to an intergenerational audience of children, young people and seniors, promoting joint reflection on the relationship with the environment, landscape and memory.
With 17 films selected, there will be a screening entitled “Landscape and Memory” and another entitled “We Are Nature”, both at the Cineteatro Messias.
Aderno is a cultural association based in Luso-Bussaco, with a focus on environmental and social sustainability.

As a group, it will make its debut in 2024 as an extension of CineEco. It selected and screened 15 films and reports having reached 470 students, aged 10 to 17.

CineClube do Faial – 9 e 10 de dezembro
The event consisted of two days of screenings at two schools on the island. The initiative involved 105 students, 4 teachers from the Horta Professional School and the Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School, and representatives from the Faial Film Club, the Fazendo Cultural Association, and the Parish Council.
Agrupamento de Escolas Oliveira do Hospital – 3 a 4 de abril
CineEco extension since 2023. In 2024, it screened four animated films and three documentaries, reaching around 100 students aged 13 to 17.

LIPOR / Bioblitz – 31 março a 3 de abril
This CineEco extension begins in 2021 and renews its partnership in the 2024 edition, covering around 320 people, including students and families.
A total of 16 sessions were held, with 18 films from CineEco being screened.
The extension for Schools took place from 31 March to 1 April. The extension for Families took place from 2 to 3 April.
