Snail Shell. Nestor Jr, Brazil, Experimental, 2025, 4’’

Every shell we create can protect us, but also imprison us. This short film shows the paths of a character in search of himself. Inspired by the works of the visual artist and author of the film – whose poetics reveal a contemplation on nature and individual and collective identities -, the film moves between introspection and the rediscovery of human beauty while evoking feelings of queer belonging and homoerotic context.
Recorded in a single take in Super 8, the film was produced in the experimentation cinema workshop proposed by the Inflámavel Festival© (Florianópolis, Brazil)for new authors and awarded by the Popular Jury the prize for Best Film and Honorable Mention in the 2025 edition.

» Deshabité. MP Tremblay, Canada, Animation/Experimental, 2025, 2’24’’

A meditation on loss and mourning, “DÉSHABITÉ” plunges us into the heart of a shattered consciousness.

» Through concrete. Maya Ivona Peiu, Roménia, USA, Experimental, 2024, 4’

A girl arrives on earth from an unknown world. Her body is paralyzed, and she tries to unleash herself and escape from the city of endless concrete.

» Endless Thirst. Tracy Peters, Canadá, Animação, Documentário/Experimental, 2025, 5’10”

Endless Thirst is a deep dive into the otherworldly and misunderstood bog biome. Filmed in Canada, it draws attention to the harm inflicted on these ancient wetlands. An aerial view of a bog in its natural state suddenly sinks into the unimaginable, then appears to evaporate into ghostly images of Sphagnum moss (a bog’s keystone species) imprinted on 16mm film. Endless Thirst alludes to the bog’s reliance on water for survival and humanity’s unquenchable desire for resource and supply. It examines the entanglement of human and more-than-human processes that link to the climate crisis.

» Eternal. André Araújo, Portugal, Experimental, 2024, 13’06’’

From the sea to the mountains, from the earth to the sky, this journey—both literal and metaphorical through nature—unfolds an ascending, transcendent, descending, and radical cycle, reflecting the human condition within the cosmos. In this experimental film, interior and exterior, matter and subjectivity are seamlessly intertwined.

» Plastic Legacy. Frank Kallenberg, Portugal, Experimental, 2025, 12’26’’

The film shows a journey through a lively, green and prosperous landscape ending in a dirty plastic waste dump. It shows the slow and creeping impact of throwing plastic waste into the nature. The journey is supported musically in a way that leads the viewer from the enjoyment of the scenery to stressful watching of the mess unfolding. Shot with a macro probe lens, the film offers a unique perspective “close to the ground” and unprecedented details on plastic decay. The idea of the film came on our walks, in our neighbourhood on the rural Algarvian coast and in other sites of the world like eastern Europe where throwing trash into the nature is apparently a common concept. The film “plastic legacy” is supposed to raise awareness and make people think twice the next time they carelessly throw away a piece of plastic.

» Sadece Iki Dakika. Sİnan Kaldan, Turquia, Drama, 2024, 4’59’’

In this interview, Umay is given only two minutes to explain the reason for her immigration application. These two minutes are Umay’s last chance to tell about her life, profession and the city she was born and raised in, Istanbul.

» Somber Tides. Chantal Caron, Canadá, Documentário/Experimental, 2024, 12’

A cry from the species, startled into survival against the elements. One last breath before being trampled by the Earth or maybe conversely a battle to wage against winds and tides clutching on before extinction.

Choreographer and filmmaker Chantal Caron’s visual signature has always been inspired by the St. Lawrence River and the natural elements that make up its ecosystem. Her works are inspired by the living and embodied in contemporary dance. A member of the Order of Canada and recipient of CALQ’s “Artist of the Year” award in 2023, her short films have been selected and awarded around the world since 2015 for their unique aesthetics.

» Structure+-+-+-. Gintarė Valevičiūtė Brazauskienė, Lithuania, Animation/Experimental, 2025, 5’30’’

Structure -+|-+|-||-+|-+|- takes its title from a poetic meter, a structural pattern that
visually and symbolically reflects lines of time and space. This unique framework unveils the intersections between history and the present, as well as the continuous flow of existence. Sounds and images intertwine into a multilayered narrative, constructing a harmonious yet intricate form that resonates with the fragility of life. Ordinary lives collide with geopolitical crises and the forces of sudden climate change, provoking the question: what truly matters to us? The film also explores the origins of the hymn “Lietuva brangi” (“My Dearest ithuania”).
