A mountain festival.
The beautiful scenery, the rich gastronomy and the vast material and immaterial cultural heritage make Seia a place to visit at any time of year.
Located in the southwest sector of the Serra da Estrela, Seia is the gateway to Portugal’s most imposing mountain, the Serra da Estrela. Situated at an altitude of almost 2000m, it is a privileged place to meet nature and experience the mountains.
In autumn, the mountains take on warm and soft colors and, in winter, the snow transforms the landscape and creates unique scenery of rare beauty. In this environment, enjoying the snow and practicing winter sports is an exclusive reality in Portugal.
There is a network of museological and cultural facilities in the municipality, including the Toy Museum, the Natural Electricity Museum, the Municipal Library, the Municipal Playroom, as well as the more interpretive CIRAC (Centro de Investigação da República Afonso Costa), the CISE (Centro de Interpretação da Serra da Estrela) and the Interpretive Center of Seia and its Historic Centre.
Some of the best mountain flavors can be found in Serra da Estrela cheese, Seia cottage cheese, rye bread, Loriga bread and black cake, sausages and mountain goat.
Inseparable from mountain gastronomy is Dão wine, a high-altitude wine produced on the slopes of the Serra da Estrela.
