Video art
Visual works that explore environmental themes with more or less poetic approaches, projected in a loop and produced in digital, video or film format. These creations go beyond the limits of traditional cinema, taking on a language of their own at the crossroads between contemporary art and cinema.
In 2024 this special session was created, presented in gallery format, allowing for a more immersive and continuous enjoyment of these works.”
Special exhibitions
Throughout the Festival, at times parallel to the official screenings, there may be some special screenings of works that, in one way or another, yesterday or today, focus on environmental, anthropological or even material and immaterial heritage issues in the Serra da Estrela region.
Presentations, workshops, informal meetings, etc. extend the Festival experience, promoting the sharing of ideas between guests and the public, always with a focus on environmental awareness.
Other activities
Alongside the film screenings, other activities such as exhibitions, project presentations, performances or workshops usually take place throughout the week, as long as they are aligned with the Festival’s mission and objectives, allowing for a more immersive and continuous enjoyment of these works.”
Meetings in the garden
Directors or actors, teachers or researchers, programmers or jurors, all the guests can talk about their experience or vision of cinema, and how artistic and cinematic value has an impact on raising awareness of the environmental cause. The public is a fundamental part of this interaction, which takes place in the gardens of the Municipal Library.
CineEco, organized by the Municipality of Seia, is Portugal’s oldest festival dedicated to environmental issues, which has been held uninterruptedly every year since 1995.
Every year the Festival invites some personalities from the film industry or the environmental field to make up the juries. They are responsible for evaluating the competing films in their category and awarding the prizes.
Each jury for the different competitions will be made up of five members: three national or foreign individuals of recognized merit in the film and/or environmental field and two young people with an interest in the areas of film and the environment.
