Mark your calendars: From October 9 to 17, Seia will be the venue for the environmental film festival
From October 9 to 17, Seia will once again be the center of international environmental cinema, with nine days dedicated to screening national and international films that shed light on and encourage reflection on today’s major environmental issues.
This year, we once again saw a significant number of submissions on the FilmFreeway and Festhome platforms. A total of 410 films were submitted for the Official Selection of CineEco 2026 (including fiction and documentary films produced for film and/or television—both domestic and international—as well as visual art works created digitally, on video, or on film, with an environmental theme). A total of 104 films were selected , and of these, 86 works from 34 countries will be part of CineEco’s six main competitions:
- International Feature Film Competition ( fiction and documentaries, 60 minutes or longer) > Environment Grand Prize, worth €2,500;
- International Short and Medium-Length Film Competition (fiction and documentaries, up to 60 minutes) > International Short and Medium-Length Film Award, worth €1,000;
- Competition for Feature Films in Portuguese (fiction and documentaries, 60 minutes or longer) > Camacho Costa Award, worth €2,000;
- Portuguese-Language Short and Medium-Length Film Competition (fiction and documentaries, up to 60 minutes) > Portuguese-Language Short Film Award, worth €1,000;
- Regional Panorama Competition> Regional Panorama Prize, worth €1,000;
- Short Film Competition for fiction, non-fiction, and animation (up to 10 minutes) > Short Film Award for fiction, non-fiction, and animation, worth €500.
We would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming participation, which once again attests to the importance of CineEco—the Serra da Estrela International Environmental Film Festival—as a premier platform for screening, promoting, and highlighting environmental films.
