“But It’s Not The Same” is a documentary that revisits the memories and customs of the municipality of Alcoutim, in the district of Faro, one of the most depopulated and ageing in Portugal. Based on the recovery of archive images, recorded on VHS tapes by members of a video club in the region between 1988 and 1999, and the cross-referencing of these images with interviews with local residents and current footage, the film reconstructs fragments of the past and reflects on the transformations of the territory and its community. Between preserved memories and fading recollections, it explores how time alters spaces, experiences and meanings.
