Classic Cinema, Special Session

MARCAS DA MONTANHA

The cinematic memory of the serra da Estrela is preserved in the film records associated with the Mountain. The imagery and memories are captured in fiction films, documentaries, propaganda, science and families. These records convey to us memories of a dizzying and challenging Mountain, inspiring and reckless, fiery and icy, fragile and resilient. A place of work and life, venerated and codified in cinematic discourse, capturing landscapes and communities that become imprints on the earth’s glow and challenge us to find innovative ways of viewing the natural and cultural landscape of the Estrela.
This session features a discussion with the historian and researcher Helena Gonçalves Pinto.

This ‘Classic Cinema’ screening comprises a collection of four documentaries about the Serra da Estrela:
“Paisagens da Serra da Estrela” (1921) – Copy digitised by the Cinemateca Portuguesa – Museu do Cinema, as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. This initiative forms part of the Next Generation EU programme.
“A Serra da Estrela” (1965) – by Museu do Cinema, RTP
“A Serra da Estrela” (1970) – by Museu do Cinema, RTP
”Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela” (1983) – by Museu do Cinema, RTP
