In 2020, Brazilian biologist Luciana Leite fulfilled her lifelong dream of visiting the Pantanal – world’s largest tropical wetland and a sanctuary to an astonishing array of wildlife – only to confront its worst-ever fire. Deeply affected by the experience, she and her friend Heideger set out to uncover the fire’s cause, but what they found revealed a large, decade-spanning crisis.

In addition to the films competing in the different competitive sections, CineEco also programs works that complement the discussion around pressing environmental issues, such as the debate sessions attended by filmmakers and other guests from the field. This year, there are four documentaries that propose to re-dimension the idea of landscape, be it wilderness, water and energy or culture.
